Elevating Standards in Endoscope Reprocessing

The interactive symposium, held during the World Federation for Hospital Sterilization Sciences (WFHSS) congress in Chile from 20 - 23 November 2024, centered on infection control in endoscopy and the reprocessing of reusable flexible endoscopes.

Reprocessing these devices is essential to ensuring patient safety and infection prevention. Recent advancements in this field, such as the widespread adoption of drying endoscope channels prior to storage, have been driven by groundbreaking scientific research in recent years. Furthermore, more advanced quality testing methods, like microbial sampling and culturing, have started to be adopted into daily practice in certain regions.

However, critical areas still require in-depth research, and new scientific insights continue to emerge.

The symposium brought together a panel of experts to address ongoing challenges and share their insights on emerging developments and practical solutions.
